TETHERS
We are connected
Our ties reaching
The womb
I reach for
My leaning post
You ground me
We shared the waters
Of our mother
Of new birth
Again today
…
I wrote this poem for my sister after she coached the birth of my youngest, my daughter, on September 28, 2005. Cowgirl is four now and reading this takes me right back to that labor, to my sister. She was incredible. It was such a peaceful, relaxed birth. It was very special to me that my only sister delivered my only daughter.

I love you, too, sister! I felt the excitement and fear and joy all over again! My pits are sweating… I feel very priviledged to have shared that with you, and I feel a particular bond with Cowgirl as well. I will never forget that. It is definitely one of my most tangible memories of adulthood. btw, I love your blog!
