How we know spring is *really* here

This appeared on our front porch late last week:

A first-time mommy; she is doing a wonderful job.

There are three black and two white babies.

One of the gifts farm life gives my family is experiences like this. My kids can identify which tom cat is the baby-daddy, and keep track of how often he is around. They have a feeling for the natural cycle of life and get to watch it play out before their eyes as the seasons spin past. There are things I wish we could experience that living in a neighborhood would offer, but there are wonderful and special things about living in the country as well.

  1. We had a mother cat when was growing up. She insisted that I be there for the births of her kittens. Every litter. If I wasn’t awake and watching, she’d get into my bed. We compromised on my old baby basket, and me lying in bed hanging over the side watching. :) We always found homes for her kittens, thankfully. :) Your mamacat is adorable, just so happy!
